Meet Our Doctors
Amy S. Abel, OD, FCOVD
Dr. Amy Abel enjoys getting to know her patients and their families. She specializes in working with children and adults with strabismus, amblyopia, and vision related learning problems. She prides herself in finding the solution to even the most difficult to manage vision problems. From four month to 94 year olds, Dr. Amy loves to make a difference in her patient’s vision and lives, and has been helping patients in the Northern Colorado, Wyoming, and Western Nebraska area since 1998.
Dr. Amy Abel attended the University of Texas, following which she received her doctorate from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1992. She attained a Fellowship after graduation from the College of Vision Development in Pediatrics and Vision Development. Throughout the year she attends extensive continuing education in the areas of vision therapy, child development, specialty contact lenses, as well as management and treatment of glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. Vision therapy and neurological rehabilitation are her true areas of passion.
Dr. Amy greatly enjoys children and helping them become successful and confident in school and sports. She enjoys getting to truly know them and their families on a personal one to one level, and managing the eye care of the family through all the generations.
Dr. Amy is an active member of the College of Optometrist in Visual Development, the Optometric Extension Program, the Neuro-Ophthalmic Rehabilitation Association, the Colorado Optometric and American Optometric Associations, and the Colorado Optometric Glaucoma Society
She practices with her husband Dr. Greg Abel. In her spare time Dr. Amy enjoys spending time with her daughter and husband traveling, skiing, walking and visiting family in Southern California and Nebraska.
Greg Abel, OD, FAAO
Dr. Greg Abel grew up in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. After attaining his undergraduate degree he studied optometry at the Indiana University School of Optometry in Bloomington, Indiana. Following graduation he completed a residency in Ocular Disease Diagnosis and Treatment at the Veteran’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia.
Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Greg became an Instructor, and later an Assistant Professor of Ocular Disease at the Southern California College of Optometry. There he performed clinical teaching, lectured, and supervised student research projects. He has published numerous papers in both optometric texts and peer reviewed journal articles. In 1990 he became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Following six years at Southern California, Dr. Greg then became an Assistant Professor at the Indiana University School of Optometry. In 1997 he was awarded Faculty of the Year for the third year class at Indiana University.
Dr. Greg specializes in ocular disease treatment and management, including red eyes, glaucoma treatment, and post-surgical care. He also performs specialty contact fittings for high prescriptions, astigmatism, keratoconus, and diseased corneas that require special help with contact lenses not use in the main stream. He is a member of the Colorado Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association, the American Academy of Optometry, and the Colorado Optometric Glaucoma Society.
In his free time Dr. Greg is a huge sports fan. When not watching the Rockies, Broncos, Huskers, or Hoosiers, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, and watching his daughter perform with her dance team.
